Red Fox Gourd – From Garden to Art

One of the things I enjoy most about growing gourds is seeing what they can eventually become. This red fox started as a gourd I grew in my own garden, and I decided to turn it into a piece of wildlife art.

I used pyrography to burn the fox into the surface, bringing out the details and texture of its fur. I then added Arteza metallic paints to give the gourd a faux ceramic finish, with a subtle shimmer that catches the light. To complete the piece, I added cordage around the rim for a more natural, rustic touch.

What I love about working with gourds is combining something grown from the earth with traditional art techniques. Each gourd has its own shape and character, making every finished piece a little different.

It's always rewarding to take something I've grown in the garden and give it a second life as a piece of art.
