Banjo Under the Stars

Original Pyrography & Mixed-Media Artwork by Nathaniel Maloney

Combining my love of acoustic music, nature, and woodworking, Banjo Under the Stars is an original mixed-media artwork that brings together natural materials and traditional artistic techniques.

At the center is a banjo beneath a crescent moon and stars, rendered in pyrography on a natural tulip wood slice. Surrounding the artwork is a dimensional mosaic of smaller wood slices, carefully arranged on a dark canvas.

The wood itself is part of the story. I personally foraged fallen tree limbs, cut them into individual slices, and kiln-dried the wood before incorporating it into the artwork. Each slice retains its natural grain, bark, and unique character.

The combination of woodburning, natural textures, and raised wooden elements creates a piece that celebrates both music and the outdoors.
