Artist's Conk Mushroom | Harvesting and Creating Wildlife Art

Artist's conk is one of nature's most interesting surfaces for creating artwork. This large shelf fungus grows on trees and has a pale underside that can be used as a natural canvas.

In this video, I head into the woods to collect an artist's conk from a dead tree and bring it back to create a red fox portrait. Using pyrography to bring out the details and watercolor markers to add color, I gradually bring the fox to life on the surface of the mushroom.

I've always enjoyed finding ways to combine my love of nature with creating artwork, and artist's conk is a wonderful example of the materials the natural world provides.

Thanks for watching!
